Mnemonic devices are techniques that aid in the retention and retrieval of information. For a young student, the use of mnemonic devices can be very helpful in memorizing their school lessons. For ideas of how you can help your child study with mnemonic devices, continue reading the post below.

How to Study with Mnemonic Devices

  1. Creating a fun, silly, and catchy song with lyrics that go over the information your child needs to learn is a great approach. The ABC song is a testament to this.
  2. Another device is to make up short and memorable acronyms for your child's lessons. For instance, if they have to learn the 3 main states of matter, an acronym like Gumpy Loves Seashells can help.
  3. Likewise, you can make use of rhymes to help your child's memorization process. A popular rhyme to remember a spelling rule is: I before E, except after C.
  4. For kinesthetic learners, a more body-aware approach to mnemotechnics is also helpful. A common one is using the knuckles to verify how many days are in each month.
  5. Last but not least, you can employ visual mnemonic devices. A good example of this is using DOC to represent the shapes of the phases of the moon, in which D is waxing, O is full, and C is a waning moon.

To ensure your child will master their school subjects and will become a better learner, enroll them in one-to-one tutoring in Evanston IL! Call The Tutoring Center, Evanston IL at 2242102244 for more information on their programs, or to schedule a free consultation.
