How to Encourage Healthy Sleeping Habits in Your Child
When it comes to a growing and healthy body and mind, every parent knows that the key is sleep. And as much as children enjoy sleeping in during the morning, it’s often because they struggle to drift off to sleep at night.
If this sounds like a student in your home,
Stretch-n-Grow, Winston/Salem, NC have some tips which can help.
Change Their Diet
Offering a second helping of dessert can be a great incentive for students who are performing great at school. However, if that second helping is actually just a scoop of sugar then it’s not going to help your youngster fall asleep.
Instead of a second helping of sugar filled ice cream or chocolate, consider making your own low-sugar treats which you can use to complement dessert and use an an incentive. If you can find a dessert which is tasty enough then you may just be able to swap their dessert entirely!
Viewing Habits
It’s no surprise that every student's eyes are immediately glued to a screen as soon as there is one in their proximity. And while it can be good to enjoy some family tv time before your student goes to bed, the activity is working to keep your child’s brain active.
Instead, consider moving your TV viewing time an hour earlier than normal and change the final hour before bed to be your child’s reading time. During this time, allow them to read any appropriate material they like, such as a comic book or even a magazine as it can help to send them off to sleep while also sharpening their reading skills.
Incentives
While you won’t want to offer a second (or even a first!) helping of dessert for breakfast, there are other alternatives you can consider.
For example, if your child refuses to go to bed the night before, change the wifi password while they are asleep and don’t provide it again until they go to sleep at the correct time the next night.
If you consider yourself quite the chef, offer to prepare their favorite or requested breakfast items on the morning after they go to bed at the correct time.
