Have Some Type of Activity Daily

For children under six, exercising is more about playing, jumping, and running than having a strict exercise routine. The main goal of exercise at this age is to lay down the building blocks of a lifetime of enjoyable physical activity and movement. Exercise at this age will look like going to the playground, walking around the neighborhood, or swimming during summer vacations.

Walking is a Great Way of Getting Around

Another way to incorporate healthy exercise habits into your child’s routine is by walking around your neighborhood or maybe even your city. Walking is an excellent form of exercise that has proven to have many benefits like better cardiovascular health and mobility. Think of places you could walk to with your children like the park, the library to pick up a new book for bedtime, walk to school in the morning, or walk to a friend’s house for a playdate.

Less TV, More Active Playtime!

Watching television can be educational and entertaining, but watching too much can lead to a sedentary lifestyle. That’s why it’s important to center your child’s free time around playing, running, and being active. Joining a local club or sports team can be an excellent opportunity to exercise, make friends and spend some time outdoors.

There are many ways of building healthy exercise habits for young children. One is enrolling them in fitness classes for children at Stretch-n-Grow in Winston-Salem, NC. Call them at (336) 287-1193 for information on their excellent programs for children of all ages.
