Fundamental movement skills are the building blocks of more complex movements, sports, and physical activities. These skills are the basic movements a child needs to perform to participate in sports and activities, as well as to develop overall physical literacy. There are several fundamental movement skills that children should develop, including:
  1. Locomotor Skills: These are the movements that allow children to move from one place to another and include walking, running, jumping, hopping, skipping, and galloping.
  2. Object-Control Skills: These are the skills that involve controlling an object, such as catching, throwing, kicking, striking, and dribbling.
  3. Stability Skills: These skills help children maintain balance and control of their body and include bending, stretching, twisting, and turning.
Children can improve their physical fitness, coordination, balance, and overall health by developing these fundamental movement skills. They will be better equipped to participate in sports and activities and will also be more likely to enjoy physical activity and stay active throughout their lives. Having trained instructors can help children develop these skills through a variety of fun and engaging activities. These may include games, obstacle courses, team sports, and individual challenges. The instructors may also use equipment like balls, cones, hoops, and mats to help children practice and refine their movements. In addition to improving physical skills,  physical education can also help children develop necessary social and emotional skills. They can learn how to work as part of a team, communicate with others, and set and achieve goals. They can also build confidence, self-esteem, and a positive attitude toward physical activity and fitness.
