Help Children Learn to Set Goals

Resilience is the ability to recover from a difficult situation. Sports tend to put everyone from the youngest athlete to the more experienced ones into situations that might challenge their patience and frustration limits. One way of working through challenging situations is to learn to set goals early on. Breaking down a challenging exercise into smaller goals can make it more manageable and can bring a lot more satisfaction when the end goal is achieved while at the same time acknowledging the challenging parts as a normal part of the learning process.

Losing Makes Children Resilient

Even when losing might seem demoralizing, if you make it a part of the learning process, it can benefit children in the long run. Many people say that losing builds character, but does it? Taking the loss, analyzing it, and learning from the experience might be some of the most effective ways to internalize how not to do something. For example, if a swimmer realizes that their breathing pattern is hurting their overall performance, they might start working on that specific thing to improve their next competition.

Work on Internal Motivation

All parents want their children to want to do well in the activities they are a part of. Setting goals, having space to make mistakes, and celebrating their wins can all help improve internal motivation, all while knowing that they have the strength to pull through because they’ve done it in the past, and that’s what we call resilience.

Help your child’s development by enrolling them in a program for children’s exercise in Winston/Salem, NC. The Certified Youth Fitness Instructors at Stretch-n-Grow, in Winston/Salem NC, have programs created specifically for children. Call today at (336) 287-1193 to book a free demonstration class.
