Beware of the Heat and Hydrate

During the summer months, one of the most important things to remember while playing outdoors is to stay safe from the heat. Using breathable clothes is a great way to stay fresh while running around. Also, it’s a good idea to use sunscreen and reapply it every two hours to avoid sunburns.

Stay Hydrated

When playing in the sun, it’s essential to stay hydrated. Make fresh water available for children and avoid sports drinks and other beverages with high sugar content. Fruits and vegetables with high water content like watermelon, pineapple, and cucumber are also great for staying hydrated.

Always Be Safe Around Water

Summer usually means being around water. Whether going to the pool or the beach, staying safe and practicing caution is necessary. Some essential rules when on the water include:
  • Enroll your children in swimming classes early on. This isn’t just a fun skill to have, but an important one when you’re around water.
  • Never let children unattended when in water, even if they’re strong swimmers.
  • If swimming in open waters, never swim close to piers or places where you can see boats.
  • Have your child use a life jacket or another flotation device if they don’t know how to swim or aren’t a strong swimmer.

We hope these safety tips help you have a fun and safe summer. If you’re looking for more fun activities this summer, call Stretch-n-Grow in Winston-Salem, NC, at (336) 287-1193 and ask about their fitness classes for children.
