When it comes time to play, it can be difficult for children to identify dangers, leading to a range of injuries. Below is a post from Stretch-n-Grow, Winston/Salem, NC about teaching your children to play safely.

Why?

Your children ask this question all the time, and it's the perfect place to start when it comes to playing safe. Sit down with your children and explain to them why it's important for them to play safely. This could include explaining to them just how easily they injure themselves or teach them about the different types of dangers around, such as sharp edges on their play equipment, etc.

Where to Play

Children want to play everywhere they can. And while the majority of the time it will be in play-appropriate areas, there will be times when they will be tempted to play in an unsafe area, such as:
  • By the side of a road
  • Running by the pool
  • Where the ground is uneven
Of course, this isn't an exhaustive list, but it gives you a good place to start. The next time you are out-and-about with your child and you can see an unsafe play area, as them to look around and see if they can identify it.
