We often associate strength training with a form of training that has the purpose of building big strong muscles. Therefore, it is not a form of exercise usually associated with children. However, strength training is so much more than just building muscles and can have many benefits, even for children. If you are interested in learning about some of the benefits of strength training for children, read this post by Stretch-n-Grow in Winston-Salem.

Increases Flexibility

Children who rarely exercise usually have weaker muscles, which leads the muscle to become tight and less flexible. By allowing children to lift weights in a safe and controlled environment, their muscles have the opportunity to move in a controlled and wider range of motion. By doing so, flexibility can be maintained and improved.

Develops Strength

This may be an obvious one. However, helping children develop their muscles and increase their strength allows them to have a healthy and agile body. Strength training activates the nervous system, which helps children become coordinated. As a result, children learn to trust their own bodies which can have a positive effect on their self-esteem.

Reduces Possibility of Injury

As a greater load of weight is applied to the muscles, they begin to adapt and, after some time of recovery, they become stronger. Having stronger muscles lowers the risk of injury, including tears, strains, and sprains.
