Does Your Youngster Resist Exercise?
There are some children who just can’t get enough of running around exercising. Then there are other children who much prefer to stay indoors and plant themselves on the couch all day. If the latter sounds like a scene in your home, below are some tips from
Stretch-n-Grow, Winston/Salem, NC to encourage your children to enjoy exercise.
Lead by Example
The first thing that you can do is to get up and get active yourself! Even if this means simply taking your family on a walk around the block after dinner. If your children can see that you are exercising alongside them and are enjoying it then they are more likely to enjoy it themselves.
Turn It into a Fun Family Activity
The next time that you are all sitting on the couch and the sun is shining, take your family out for a picnic. Before you are all about to eat, get everybody together for a quick and fun game of cricket or soccer, or any other game you can play for a few minutes. Once you have all eaten and your food has settled, be sure to pick up where you left off! By making exercise a part of a fun day out, the stigma of exercise is taken away, leaving a family-friendly activity.
Be Open to New Sports
Just as times change, so too does the definition of a sport. What you may consider nothing more than running around or jumping over obstacles for no good reason is actually a great exercise activity. And the fact that your youngster considers it a sport and is excited to do it should be something which you encourage.
