Help Your Child Make Better Health Choices

Children learn habits from the moment they are born. What they see, what they eat, and what they are exposed to play a big role in what they do. That is why it is important to take the correct action steps to help them develop the right habits and to make better health choices.

2 Important Steps to Teaching Your Child to Make Better Choices

  • Model with the example. The very first things kids do is learn by watching. That is how they learn to talk, to walk, to run, etc. The same goes for the health choices they learn to make. If they see that the people around them are constantly choosing fruits and vegetables over chips and candy that is what they will learn to do.
  • Help them think about the consequences. One important thing to do as children grow up is to explain to them the why behind good choices both in their health and in other areas of their life. They need to be able to understand that any action or decision they make has a consequence. They have to learn to think ahead and decide if they are willing to face the consequences and not just make a choice based on what it is they want now.
