A great way to start getting active and enjoying the outdoors is to use your bike instead of the car this summer. This provides additional benefits to your economy and the environment but more than anything it is good for your health. It also teaches kids that there is more than just one way of getting your exercise in. Anytime you have to run an errand nearby, instead of grabbing the car keys reach out for your bike helmet and your bike. You can even get all the family involved and try a new biking experience. Try to choose at least one day of the week or the weekend to go on a ¨surprise bike trip.¨
Fun Biking Activity for the Family
Try to choose at least one day of the week or the weekend to go on a ¨surprice bike trip.¨ All you need to do is open google maps on your phone/tablet/computer etc. Locate your home, then zoom in until the screen displays your neighborhood. Have your child close his eyes and point to anywhere on the screen. Wherever he/she points is your destination. Get directions to that destination, try to use a new route you haven´t been on before, and start riding your bike to that spot. You may discover new things and places around your neighborhood that you hadn´t seen before. This is an exciting way to get some exercise this summer and create memories as a family.
